Competition analysis

Compare your page with the pages ahead of it. Each is measured using the same checks, and the differences become a list of improvements your competitors have already made.

A highlighted website map is compared to several other maps and their metrics.

How it works

Your own page in a competitive comparison

  1. Enter your own page and competitors
  2. Let the comparison be evaluated
  3. Prioritize improvements

Up to 10 addresses.

Where do the 10 addresses come from: from your own search. Enter the term into Google, copy the first ten results and paste them here. This is intentional: automatically retrieving results is prohibited by Google’s terms of service, and paid providers show results from a data centre somewhere. You see the list as your customers see it.

This is how it goes

  1. The search term for Google enter – preferably in the private window, this dampens the personalization.
  2. Copy the addresses of the first ten results. Leave out ads that don't count.
  3. Insert it at the top, check your own page.

What is Compared

Each page goes through the same procedure as in Ranking check : Match to the term, amount of text, frequency in the text, response time, title, H1, subheadings, entry and internal link text. Compared against the median of competitors – a single outlier does not distort it.

The resulting steps are ranked by how many competitors do something your page does not. If eight out of ten do it, it appears near the top.

What the tool cannot do

It knows no references from other websites, no domain age, no brand awareness – the three reasons why a weaker page can still stand before a better one.

Not more than 10 foreign pages per passage, and each is retrieved once as by an ordinary visitor.
